PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG) -At the Panama City Beach Sports Complex, Great Southern Sports Association wrapped up their last fall baseball tournament Sunday afternoon with the Panhandle State Tournament on the Turf.

The event hosted over 50 teams from all over the southeast ages 8U through 14U. Florida State director for Great Southern Sports, Trey Cockrell says these types of tournaments have meant something extra special during this COVID-19 year.

“Right before we started back, I guess the weekend after Memorial Day, when we first resumed tournaments, during our COVID pause, it was a breath of fresh air. Every tournament has a different feel. I don’t hear the complaining. I don’t hear the bickering like we usually do. People are just glad to be back out here playing baseball.”

The association will take a break from hosting tournaments to prepare for spring baseball, which will begin in February.
